A statement issued by Social and Culture Nashet Association:
In light of the saddening events that occurred in Ain El-Helwe Camp, the general director of UNRWA released the following decision: (in coordination with the general public and Lebanese political consensus in the area of Saida, the general director of UNRWA HakamShawan decided to close all schools and education organizations on Wednesday. this decision includes Sebleen institute and UNRWA school in Saida and Ain El-Helwe.) In this context it is important for us to stress the following:
1- the meeting that took place in Saida’s municipality was not a consensus of all of Saida’s active members; instead, there was a noticeable absence of some of the parties and powers in Saida. Thus, we are surprised that an international organization like the UNRWA would commit such a huge mistake.
2- A decision was declared by the minister of education his excellence Marwan Hmadi regarding the closure of schools and colleges and that is because of the security situation. UNRWA ought to have committed to the Minister’s decision as a guideline.
3- What proceeded indicates very clearly a politicization of the UNRWA’s work which places the decision in the position of political employment. This demands an explanation and fixing so that it does not transform onto a new methodology which places the UNRWA in the politicized affiliation. this is not accounted for.
We place these notes in front of the general director of UNRWA and that is because of our interest and cares for this organization which should be careful in using the political term in cases that can carry double interpretations,And cause damage to the status and impartial organization.
And by virtue of the experience formed Of the work of UNRWA, and the spirit of this international organization, we believe that the decision of the Director General MR HakamShahwan was contrasted with his powers
